Baby Blues - A popular comic strip in which Sylvia was featured as one of the characters during the week the main characters, Wanda and Darryl MacPherson, join a Lamaze class.  Below are the 2 scenes in which she appeared, along with a note from Sylvia sharing how she got into this beloved comic. To view the comic in the entire week in which Wanda and Darryl agree to go to a Lamaze class together, see the Baby Blues Archives and click on the dates Sept 8th through 15th, 2002.

Memories from Sylvia
I love reading Baby Blues comics.  They are very supportive of many of the values I find important.  Wanda is a very involved stay-at-home mom who nurses her babies.  When she was expecting her third child, I emailed Jerry Scott, the writer of Baby Blues, to ask if Wanda was going to go to a Lamaze class.  He asked me “What do you do in your Lamaze classes?”  After many exchanges, Baby Blues ran a whole week on Wanda & Darryl attending a Lamaze class taught by Sylvia (me).  I bought two panels of his original art and they hang in my lactation office (see 9/11 & 9/13/02 below).  Sept 13, 2002 depicts one of my favorite positions that I show pregnant ladies in my class.  The women find this position to be very comfortable for back pain in pregnancy and in labor.  This position helps the labor progress.  Lamaze International gave Baby Blues the 2003 media award which I accepted at their convention.  The award was sent to Jerry Scott and Rick Kirkman.

The Creators of Baby Blues
In 1990, Jerry Scott co-created Baby Blues with Rick Kirkman (Jerry writes, Rick draws). The strip was originally based on Rick's second daughter, but in 1993 Kim and Jerry welcomed Abbey into their lives to love, educate and help produce gags. Since then, a new little gag-helper has been added to their lives.
